Shimla (Simla) is one of the most popular tourist holiday destinations, surrounded by mountain snowy capped peaks and forested hillsides greenery, the capital of Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. This popular hill city has a cool climate during winters and moderate warm during summer season. The most preferred accessible way to reach Shimla is via flight (+ Road i.e. Bus/Cab) or by train (Mail-Express + mountain/Toy Train) + by road journey from the nearest station. Shimla and its neighboring cities are well connected to almost all major cities across India by air, rail and road transports.

How to reach Shimla from Mumbai - Modes of Transportation available to travel from Mumbai to Shimla and neighbouring connecting points are...

By Train: Most preferred mode of transport…
There are no direct trains run between Mumbai to Shimla. However, the nearest railway stations are Ambala Cantt Junction, Chandigarh, and Kalka. In my tour to Shimla, I chose the preferred way of traveling from Mumbai to Shimla i.e. by train. We boarded a Paschim (Deluxe) SF Express from Bandra Terminal in Mumbai and reached Ambala Cantt Junction next day afternoon (almost 25 hours long journey). From Ambala Cantt Junction, we reached Shimla by bus (Around 4 hours road journey). Approximate Time Taken to travel-The estimated time taken to reach Shimla from Mumbai by Train + via Road is 30 Hrs. One can also book a cab or private vehicle or take a public/private bus to reach Shimla from Ambala Cantt. The other alternate way to reach Shimla is you can catch the same train, the Paschim (Deluxe) SF Express from Bandra Terminal in Mumbai and get down at Kalka and from Kalka, take a mountain train to reach Shimla. Also From outside Kalka railway station, one can hire a private vehicle or opt for cabs/taxis to reach Shimla. Another good luxury option available to reach Shimla is, You can board a Rajdhani express from Mumbai to New Delhi and from there, take a bus to reach Shimla by road from New Delhi.

By Road:
Shimla is well-connected and accessible by road and national highways from all major cities and neighbouring towns in north India. The road distance from Mumbai to Shimla is approximately 1800kms, and it may take around 30-32 hrs to reach Shimla by road from Mumbai. Hence I would suggest going by either train or flight to Shimla from Mumbai. However, buses are more preferred over trains to reach Shimla from neighbouring cities.

It has steps with green grass; can say Eco friendly seating arrangement.

About my experience on my tour to shegaon.
This time, we decided to plan and complete my long outstanding trip to Shegaon. Since long time during my college days; we were planning to visit Shegaon temple and Anand Sagar. I am sharing my trip plan and travel experience on my journey to Shegaon to know about beautiful places in Shegaon like Anand Sagar. We packed our bags and headed for Shegaon. We had booked our tickets on the Vidarbha express which is a night-time running train from Mumbai. We got confirmed tickets from Mumbai CSMT to Shegaon; at the same time, we had booked a ticket for the return journey, we got confirmed tickets on the Geetanjali express from Shegaon to Dadar, this train runs in the daytime in between Shagaon and Mumbai. We couldn't book ticket of overnight running trains as the status of tickets of all night rider trains were showing in waiting. I didn't take a risk to book a waiting ticket hence we could avoid daily task to check the status of my ticket. I was happy at this time as my ticket was not on the waiting list. I mentioned this because during our last trip to Kolhapur by Mahalaxmi express, we had booked the waiting ticket on that night rider train; at that time waiting list no. was 86 and wait list was reducing at a very slow pace still i had believed it would either end at RAC or confirm, but as not to take any risk due to long wait list number; we had managed to get tatkal tickets of another train, that caused a change in the schedule of our trip plan.
But this time; as we had confirmed tickets on both direction journey, we could plan our tour programme properly.

Anand Sagar Shegaon

Our journey to Shegaon started, We left Dadar as per scheduled departure in the evening and reached Shegaon in the early morning at 3:40. The 1st impression of Shegaon is of one of the cleanest places i have visited. We reached Shegaon by Vidarbha express, from there we boarded a minibus to the Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan. The Journey from railway station to Sansthan was over within half an hour. There We booked a room as planned. I observed that the staff members were very cooperative. I got information from the enquiry office and staff available there; that, we can get sansthan buses from there which would take us to the Anand Sagar. Please check my tour plan, i mentioned the same. I observed, people were still waiting for the accommodation. Some of them might have booked rooms in another complex like Anand vihar. On the first day, for darshan, it took us about a half an hour. by God's grace, the queue was continuously moving which was really helpful. After darshan, we headed back to our bhakt niwas, had our lunch, then roamed around the complex, shopping etc. part of the unplanned programme.

Anand Sagar Shegaon

On the next day i.e. Day 2 of my shegaon tour, I woke up early and was all excited to be going to visit Anand Sagar. After taking bath, we had tea and poha as a morning breakfast. After breakfast, We all boarded the bus and went to Anand Sagar and enjoyed a lot, you can see photographs of some of the beautiful places that you can visit in anand sagar. It was really the great fun and lot of enjoyment that we had. The weather was excellent, it was so refreshing to see so much greenery. As soon as you enter into the park of Anand sagar, you will see a mini-toy train which will take you for a ride around this beautiful place. There are canteens available at many places in the park, so don't worry about food. In the morning, as we already had breakfast in the Sansthan's canteen, we skipped breakfast here in Anand Sagar. It was around 2.30 and we went for lunch. We quickly finished our lunch and headed for dhyan kendra in Anand sagar. There is a lake and in the middle, alsi there is a meditation center and mini island. We spent good time there almost an hour in a meditation center. In the evening, we watched a musical fountain show at the amphi-theater in Anand Sagar. We clicked some pictures there. We enjoyed surroundings and refreshed by this enriching experience, we headed towards Bhakta niwas by taking an auto. In short, everyone enjoyed the trip to Anand Sagar. Please note that the park is so huge hence you have to walk a lot and you may need more than one day to explore it. Please carry atleast 1.5ltr water bottle and wear a cap.

Anand Sagar Shegaon

Next day i.e. 3rd day of the Shegaon tour, We woke up early and took a walk (towards temple) to feel fresh air. There were fewer people in the temple in the early morning hence we managed to come back within half an hour. After that, We went to the market for shopping. After darshan and shopping; we took our bags, checked out of rooms and headed back to the railway station around 10.30am to start return journey towards Mumbai. We had confirmed tickets up to Dadar on the Geetanjali express. During our return journey; wait for the Geetanjali express was longer than expected. The train arrived about an hour late at Shegaon. We boarded our train for Mumbai from Shegaon railway station. I sat at the window side the whole day and enjoyed the scenery all along. Our train made very few halts and after 9-hr journey, we reached the Dadar railway station at around 08.50PM i.e. on the right time. From then it was a wait of few mins to get a taxi to go home and finally finished our tour to Shegaon-Anand Sagar.

Anand Sagar Shegaon

Here I am sharing some beautiful images of Anand Sagar captured through my Cam.

I recommend this place to visit with family as well as with friends. I am sure you will definitely love to visit Anand Sagar again. Shegaon-Anand sagar is definitely must visit place in Maharashtra.
